PERFORMING ARTS
Charleston is home to several performing arts groups.  These range from community groups to  professional organizations with outstanding guest artists. Groups such as these give Charleston a unique performing arts arena and include the Charleston Ballet, Charleston Chamber Music Society, Charleston Civic Chorus, Charleston Community Music Association, Charleston Light Opera Guild and the Children's Theatre of Charleston.

MOUNTAIN STAGE
West Virginia Public Radio presents this live two-hour arts performance show, broadcast on Sundays at 6:00 p.m. at the Cultural Center Theater in the State Capitol Complex. This show features nationally and internationally recognized musicians and provides a delightful evening of a variety of talent. This is one of the most popular programs offered to Public Radio International's member stations, and is heard on 130 PRI stations nationwide. Tickets are available through TICKETMASTER at 304-342-5757, or at the door, starting at 1:30 pm the day of the performance.

WEST VIRGINIA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
This season runs from September through April with a schedule of symphonic and pop performances with a variety of special guests through the season. Symphony Sunday is presented in June as a celebration of music of community. Please call 304/342-0160 for more information.

CLAY CENTER FOR THE ARTS AND SCIENCES
Currently under construction and expected to open in 2002, this is considered to be one of the most ambitious cultural and educational undertakings in West Virginia. This center was established to serve the arts, sciences and technology. It will also bring together educational exhibits and programs and performances in dance and music. This facility will include a Science Museum with a planetarium, 1,880-seat Concert Hall, Virtual Education Center, and exhibit galleries. Call 304-346-1100 for more information.

THE CULTURAL CENTER
Located within the State Capitol Complex, the Cultural Center houses the State Museum, a craft shop, reference and archive libraries, and a theater staging a variety of performances including West Virginia Public Radio's nationally known Sunday program Mountain Stage.  Please call 304-558-0220 for more information.
